Embracing a Positive Mindset Towards Profit in Your Business
There is more to profit than we know.
Do you find yourself secretly struggling with the idea of making a profit? You are not alone.
If you’ve read my welcome post, you’ll recall my entrepreneurial story and journey from the age of six. After decades of living and working as an entrepreneur and even mentoring others, I can fairly say that apart from the fear and anxiety of failure, one other topic that weighs heavy on the heart of many business owners is the idea and concept of profit, especially among women.
I often hear:
I feel guilty when it comes to making a profit.
I don’t know what a healthy profit is.
I don’t want to focus on profit.
I’m okay with making just a little.
Is it possible to ever make too much profit?
Profit has often had a negative connotation historically and to this day because of negative accounts of unethical business practices, such as the exploitation of workers, environmental degradation, or prioritizing financial gains over social responsibility.
Additionally, some people view profit as leading to income inequality and widening the gap between the rich and the poor. When profit is pursued at the expense of ethical considerations, social impact, or environmental sustainability, it can result in negative perceptions of businesses and their practices.
Let’s begin by affirming:
Profit is a good thing.
Profit is a good thing.
Profit is a good thing.
Let’s examine this closely.
There are a few varying definitions of the word Profit. The most used definition of profit is:
Profit:
1. The excess of returns over expenditure in a transaction or series of transactions, especially the excess of the selling price of goods over their cost.
However, there are two other definitions I wish to call your attention to:
Profit:
2: The compensation accruing to entrepreneurs for the assumption of risk in business enterprise as distinguished from wages or rent
